I followed things closely on blurt and the reaction of both the community and the blurt team after HF6. There was a lot of concern in the community primarily with curators and larger accounts as it seemed like voting power had vanished over night. This then hit the content producers also because they were not seeing the same value on their posts.
I post and curate and I definitely had sticker shock and concern. But it seems that the blurt team was on it. In the end after some confusion and communication issue the consensus was for us to wait a few weeks and see how the voting averages level out. I think I can now confirm that @rycharde was right and had all the reason in the world to be confident in his calculations.
I can't say for sure but i think before HF6 my 100 vote was around 440 or so. Just now with close to 100 percent and a 100 percent vote I voted on this post:
https://blurtter.com/blurt/@rycharde/blurt-economic-indicators-20-june-2021
My vote was 195bp. so it is just a little less than half of the 440 which was being doubled on the front end prior to HF6.
I think a big problem was the communication from the team and I think they learned from that with the creation of #blurtdevelopment and #blurtwitness. And the second issue was psychological because the vote being shown was actually fixed bringing the perceived vote down by 50 percent right before the HF, which then brought down a lot of peoples voting power by about another 30 percent.
To me the way that everything worked out gives me confidence in blurt. Especially now that I have witnessed some of the issues on HIVE with the recent spat and tank of POB. I think blurt is a great community and has so much going for it.
@r2cornell I understood your concerns greatly a few weeks ago with first realizing you had double paid your curators for months and seeing that loss potential then the physiological halfing of the vote and then the 30 percent drop in vote on top of that. I am wondering how you and other curators are feeling about how your vote is now?
I think when I look at the weeks worth of rewards my curator rewards are similar to before HF6, but my author rewards are lower. But I can not be sure if this is because I was posting a little less or not. And what the discouragement of some of this did to my posting motivation.
The point of this post was to put a cap on the wait and see from my eyes and perspective anyway. I wanted to report back and say that things looked like they have worked out but I am also interested in others perspectives.
We need a complete product first like smooth and robust frontends. Only then we can bring in more people on Blurt and then things would gradually improve. let's hope everything would be fine pretty soon!
Does this mean that authors will now be seeing the same exact upvotes payout not half of it?
What happened was that in HF5, the reward curve was adjusted to take into account the percentage of vested BLURT versus the total supply. The developer who was working on the HF added that calculation to the payout, but forgot to add it to the APIs that the frontends call on to get the pending payout value.
I found where the problem was and pointed it out to the developer and he fixed it. You can see that conversation here.
A few days before HF6, when we updated the RPC nodes, the pending payout values were then correct since the nodes were returning the correct value to the frontends.
The vote being doubled was fixed right before HF6. What you see now is what is divided between the poster and the curator as it should be.
Congratulations, your post has been upvoted by @r2cornell, which is the curating account for @R2cornell's Discord Community.
Hi, @leifasaur,
Thank you for your contribution to the Blurt ecosystem.
Please consider voting for the witness @symbionts.
Or delegate to @ecosynthesizer to earn a portion of the curation rewards!
Hello @leifasaur.
In answer to your question I have not heard anything in regards to curator's reaction to what took place, and how I had to adjust my calculations for commissions.
I used to fill in and do some curating when voting power was high in one of the account. I have not been doing this since. I kinda of lost some of my enthusiasm. I continue to power down one of my accounts that I had been using for curating outside the curation project.
In one of my curation accounts I am in the process of delegating the Blurt Power to the other accounts. That should help the voting value a little.
I really have not been paying attention to past paying of commissions to current ones. Probably best I do not look back.
I found it very disheartening that I did not read about the inflated commissions I was paying due to an error in the system, until the uproar after the HF. I am still looking for whatever balance that was to take place after a few weeks...I do not see any significant change since the weeks since the HF.
