Why we don't host servers home?

in blurt •  4 years ago

Today, Home Internet Partially Broken. It seems the PlusNet is having an intermittent network issue - with download speed is normal, but the upload speed is extremely slow - seems being capped at 1Mbps.

Speed Test results:

If you are hosting a server at home - the upload speed will be the download speed for the users - therefore it is impractical to host servers using home internet as the upload speed is usually slow (and not enough).

Also, your home router has to be stable, not dropping connections from time to time.

The top upload speed if normal, is roughly 20Mb/s. Apart from a good, stable and fast internet speed (especially upload), you would need a static IP address inorder to host a server using home internet.
