Technological Sovereignty

I literally did vote for Kanye West and I'm going to tell you why. I voted for Kanye West because I think that American government has mainly accepted a state of mediocrity. It is depressing.

We just barely build roads at this point.

We screwed up the response to covid.

The economy is moving more and more toward a purely financial state of affairs arranged to catch newly printed dollars pulled out of thin air by the Federal reserve.

And excessive regulation makes it difficult to do business and to get started in business.

Large corporations seek out regulations that benefit them at the expense of individuals and small corporations.

The government hands out lots and lots of money to companies and the largest companies are in the best position to grab the most cash.

We spend precious time debating things that simply do not matter.

Economically speaking we should have a singular focus:

The United States must continue to develop the world's best technology.

All other objectives can flow forth from that.

We are no longer able to make electronics in the United States. Therefore, I submit to you that we are no longer sovereign.

I propose that sovereignty in this era means the capability to produce the entire technology stack from end to end.

Currently this means that there are zero sovereign nations in the world.

China depends on the United States for semiconductor engineering and software.

The United States depends on China for hardware.

Of these two countries, only China has put together a clear and comprehensive strategy to become technologically sovereign.

I honestly believe that the world could be drastically improved if there were many technologically sovereign states because if we look at conflict And it's increasingly economic and interconnected nature, it's fairly clear that because China is the spigot for hardware globally, it exercises a significant degree of control over any country.

Back doors
The ability to stop shipping products
The ability to give favorable pricing
The ability to shape capabilities of products

The United States enjoys similar advantages in the software world.

We make the best clouds, and we make the majority of the world's production software. I would say that after the US for software comes Europe and after Europe comes China.

With this said, China has a wide array of very high quality consumer facing software, And some of it is better than the American equivalents.

this is not actually a plea for let's all just work together.

This is how I think global systemic risk can be lowered.

Nation states, as many as possible, need to become technologically sovereign, and technologically sovereign means that they can produce the entire stack.

Really a nice thought jacob sir.
but do you think It is really possible for number of countries to become independent.

I mean many countries are still dependent on others for products apart from technical to non technical as well.

I agree you on the point that people debate on unwanted topics , I can really relate this statement with India.

Here unwanted debates is normal. I never open the television for hearing the news.
only bullshit on majority of the channels.

politics based on religion , Blaming past for present failure are something we see here.

If government work on the right thing like in the field of science and technology , things can change.

But who will understand the importance of this...?

here specially in India majority of people in power has 💩 level of education.

Anyways economic condition here is even worse. I hope it returns back to normal atleast.

Some people will go and tell you that covid is fake.

I won't tell you that covid is fake

But I will tell you that the covid lockdowns are terrible and not supported by science

Again a topic on which we can have a long debate. buy thankfully we are on the same side.

from my perspective those lockdowns were more than terrible.
Country after country started implementing it do you know it Effected the economy of entire world.
People lost their jobs , workers stuck in countries where they have to live forcefully due to lockdown that too without work.

A lockdown without a planning that too for month was enough to break the economy of the world.

I have saw and conversed with the poor here in India and do you know i they all were in pain due to the lockdown.

some sold their houses thinking that they ll die and this thing will never get normal.
Common people were afraid alot and government did nothing to comfort the citizens but came up with the lockdown concept.

so what do you think government should have gone instead of bringing the lockdown...?

I'm not sure why you think there wasn't planning

I mean to say that here in India atleast. There was a sudden lockdown. thousands of labours got stuck with no food and many were on their way to home.
you know they were walking or some were using bicycle to get back to home.
government here should have comforted them or arranged means of travelling for them.

So that's why i think it was a failure in majority of the aspects.

You don't have any suspicion that the large business conglomerates that solidified their power over the economy in the sudden India lockdown used their outsized power to push the government to lock down in a fashion that was unfavorable to to the small businesses?

yeah , you are right. there is no doubt about that.
but anyways the harm has already been done and middle class and lower class people are already suffering.

Hi there! I joined this intriguing topic. check it out hehe :)

Independence was systematically destroyed in our region. Twenty years ago there were still many small farmers who could provide the people in the region with everything they needed in a crisis. Today, none of these farms are left.

What has happened here on a small scale now seems to me to be happening with much greater speed and scope all over the world. Are there still sovereign countries? It doesn't look like it, because they are all following the same course.

No sovereign countries, no technologically sovereign countries.

Thank you so much sir for you opinion ,i hope if a nation work on technology to grow. Hopefull they can produce the entire stack.

Did you know that open source software has the economic weight of at least one nation state?

This is verifiable, Bitcoin is open software.

We can do the same for hardware, but it is trickier. That said, once there are simple open computing systems and open designs for how to build those computing systems, is my hope that there will be many technologically sovereign nations

US is still the superpower and China knows that and admits it. Now that it has a new president, we'll see what happens.

I'm now back at blurt!

I would like you to play the following thought experiment:

given that China has captured the global electronics manufacturing market, and has managed to invest conservatively several trillion dollars in infrastructure in Guangdong province to service the global electronics manufacturing market, how long would it take the United States to build equivalent manufacturing facilities?

Topic accepted. Will post in a few hours. Thanks sir for this thought.

Why do you think that Kanye West would address this issue? I heard him on Joe Rogan. I think he had the intention of making positive and great changes to the laws of the United States.

Here is my own take for this thought-provoking topic you asked me to share.
How Long Will It Take The US To Overcome China In Terms Of Technological Infrastructure?
