Technically,
anyone can make Clay:
- Get Starport
- Gather Validators
- Create a community standard that the network runs from the edges.
- document the experience
Of course there's more to it than that. In my ideal vision, clay runs exclusively from the edges of the network. There are no validators in the cloud whatsoever. This poses a bunch of risks to the stability of the chain,
And as far as I know hasn't been thoroughly tested. A couple of years ago I did something like this with some raspberry pies but only three of them and so it wouldn't be possible to really count those results as meaningful.
With that said, my network was stable.
@baabeetaa and I were discussing "how to create a stable chain in an unstable network" and that conversation cropped up a few days later, as well. So, clay is a direct experiment in doing just that.
PS: intended design for clay is:
starport app github.com/someonesname/clay
and nothing more.
Could add types if you want, however.
Also interested in learning about upgrades via Clay, so we might want to ensure that x/upgrade is included as well.
