Free Transactions Kill the Blockchain Organism (slowly)

Hey guys, I just wanted to drop this article on the chain and give you a little context on my recent campaign for fees.

https://www.coindesk.com/how-blockchains-become-great-big-garbage-patches-for-data

That fellow there is Nic Carter, he is with Castle island ventures, and he makes these really neat Bitcoin dice. I bought some at one point. My company drone energy talked with him when we were attempting to raise some funds.

Anyhow, I do indeed consider him to be an expert, and while I wanted fees before @baabeetaa linked me to his article, in that article Nic makes a detailed and clear case for why fees are absolutely necessary for blockchain sustainability.

Please check it out, and support witnesses that have a fee level that you personally feel comfortable with. Please keep in mind, although I have about 1 million blurt, I do not in any way shape or form control the fee level. I have never told witnesses some particular fee level that they must meet, and I never will. I simply wanted them to be higher.

Higher fees will enable us to cut down on spam, determine what a blurt post is actually worth, and weed out non-serious users.

if any of you, whose blog is more than simple spam, has issues posting due to fees, you please contact me. I will give you blurt so that you can post.

Well, I understand that it is a measure that discourages spam and I also understand that it is a way to enable the continuity of the blockchain as such, so I think it makes sense, it also happens that in case of compromise with the blog that is being created, then some investment would be necessary to give it greater power.

My only concern is that increased fees will discourage comments. Blurt must have different fees for comments and posts.

I agree. The orig RC calc had different rates for posts, comments and other txns.
I see a vote now costs 0.056 BLURT and is a flat rate. Need some calcs - that means some users may be spending more than their vote is worth.

Blurt posting Fees should gradually go up.

Which witnesses should we vote for ?

The ones with the fee levels and community involvement profile that you feel good about :).

I've noticed increment in fee already. It's good for us to avoid spamming

blurt already have fees for posting.
will it be increased in near future?

Well they were super super tiny, now most of my posts cost me about 1/10 of a cent, instead of 1/1000.

Only your fees have increased or everyone's fees?

Witnesses set parameters for fee levels, and the chain takes the median value of the active witnesses.
