In order to grow fruits in a tree, the flowers of those trees need to pollute. Flowers are polluted by ‘pollen animals’ which means bees, ambalan insects, ants or other insects.
A palm flower is huge. When a palm flower blooms in a village, all the bees and insects around attracts to the flower which has enough honey. That flower animals will be given honey for about two months. So when these animals don't go to flowers on other trees around (villages) they don't grow fruits on those trees.
Seven villages become desolate means that fruits don't grow on the trees and seeds in the village. When the fruits are lost, not only humans but even the animals are lost to eat.
