Saw this picture on an archeology page. After asking who are the people in this. The picture was quoted because this is a detailed description that could write a separate book.
In the corner on the left side is Dr. Siran Upendra Deraniyagala (many times this name is read as Siran, but the correct name is Siran). The figure known as the father of new archeology in Sri Lanka. We are a teacher as well as a world recognized person on the subject of pre-history.
Professor Senaka Bandaranaike is next to Siran sir. Personally, I am one of the most respected experts in the field of archeology in Sri Lanka. He established the Postgraduate Institute of Archeology at the University of Kelaniya and worked as its founding director. The figure who did a pioneering mission of connecting human resources to the study of archeology through non-archeology disciplines, preparing a platform where anyone in Sri Lanka can learn archaeology. Had it not been for his mission, I would have lost a place to study archeology after studying biology.
It is hard to say for sure who is third, but apparently Vidyajyothi Dr. Raja de Silva. He held the position of Commissioner of Archeology since 1967 and is the author of many publications.
Professor Anuradha Seneviratne is in the right corner. He was a professor in the Sinhala Department of the University of Peradeniya and author of a treatise on the origin and spread of Indo-Aryan languages as well as many archaeological publications in Sri Lanka.
Here Prof. Senaka Bandaranaike and Dr. Raja de Silva are students of Oxford University. Deraniyagalayan is a student of both Cambridge and Harvard universities. Professor Anuradha Seneviratneyan is a student of Halle University, Germany.
All of these are brilliant people who conducted research on Sigiriya from various fields and contributed to a comprehensive interpretation of Sigiriya and its surroundings.
