Rich grapes in red soil 🍇

After coming to Jaffna, he had been drinking Nellie Crush for many years but hesitated to find out its origin. Nellie Crush, a sweet green drink, maintains its position as the refreshing drink of the Northern Province, so one should not hesitate to find its origin, because the sight of liquid green in it is soothing to the human eye, and because of the curiosity that arises as to how these are produced from Nellie.

I saw bottles of grape wine (made from Nellie) hidden among the famous Nelli Crush bottles in Jaffna in the market. The grape juice was labeled as "Rosetto 'wine'". I saw that they were flavored with various spices. I had read that Rosetto wine was traditionally produced by a convent of nuns in Tholagatty in Jaffna, Jaffna. The next destination was immediately to discover the story of this unique, nun-made wine.
To make grape wine, you must first visit a vineyard. This past weekend, I traveled along Jaffna Palali Road to Urumpirai to visit a vineyard. Because discovering the deep spiritual roots of these drinks adds more flavor when you drink them.
First of all, the fruitfulness of the grapes growing in the red soil should be seen with the eyes. It is only wise to focus on the sources before defining the cultural identity of the Tamil people in the north.
While traveling along the Palali Road past Tirunaveli and Kondavil, tall palm trees are found scattered in clusters on the border of the slightly dry land. Tobacco plantations appear. In small plots of land one can see many vineyards growing fertile on fertile red soil. As heard, grapes can be harvested monthly in a period of one year. The entire vineyard is covered with string nets around and above to reduce the damage from birds and bats. No matter how the fences are built, the invasion of squirrels cannot be stopped. With a mixture of organic fertilizers and good water A supply-fed grapevine can bear fruit for more than ten years when well maintained.
The most interesting thing is that the grapes in Jaffna are a little sour during the rainy season, but when the sun is shining, the sour taste of the grapes is a little less. Even former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike, the wife of SWD Bandaranaike, who was the silver bell of Asia at that time, visited the Agricultural Research Institute in Tirunaveli when she visited Jaffna. Growers are encouraged.
Jaffna grapes are famous both in the north and the south. These days, many grape sellers can be seen selling grapes on both sides of Palali Road. If you are a tourist in Jaffna, you must experience the characteristic taste of Jaffna wine or grape juice. This is how grape wine is made.
It is boiled in large iron kettles placed about 5 feet from the ground and heated by a lower furnace. The grape juice is then collected in juice barrels and fermented for 3 months. After that liquid glucose is added to improve its taste. The whole room is filled with natural sweet fragrance.
Grape cultivation is wonderful. It is nursing care. It is their custom to take off their shoes and enter the cultivation fields. It is the intimacy we show to them. This is just one story of the farmers of Jaffna. Even though we have new experiences, this is their lifeline.
