🔹️After Laura came to live in the house near Midi Oya, they had to borrow a lot. It was due to the illness of the mother and Mary and the destruction of their crops twice by pests.
🔹️This Palagati army caused an estimated destruction of 116 billion dollars in today's money to America. American records show that there were about 3.5 trillion Palagati in the Palagati army mentioned in Laura's book. Native to Canada, this fruit was completely exterminated in 1902. 🔹️Then Charles worked as a manager of a small hotel. While going to school, Laura had to do very tiring and difficult work as a maid there.
🔹️Laura, who grew up as a beautiful and cute girl, once tried to seriously abuse the son of the owner of that hotel, but she managed to get away with it. A teacher from the school she attended also tried to trouble her, but she managed to escape by stabbing him with a pencil.
🔹️ Several of Laura's friends died during the cold winter. During that winter they had to shelter another family in Laura's house. That difficult time was made more difficult by that family. They did not provide any support to Laura and her family.
Laura, Mary, Grace, Charles all died of diabetes.
🔺️Laura's book The Pioneer Girl tells about the most unfortunate and difficult times in her life. But none of the publishers wanted to include those sad situations in the little house series.
🔺️The reason for that was because Americans who lived a very difficult life due to the American economic depression of the 1920s could refuse to read another such sad story. Therefore, at the request of the publishers, Laura teamed up with her daughter Rose to re-edit her writings and popularize them as a series of delightful works written for children.
