First full-size digital scan of the 3,800m (12,500ft) Titanic A unique 3D view of the entire ship. 100 years after the ship was gone, the bow is still instantly recognizable, now covered in debris and long underwater.
On the boat deck, a gaping hole casts a view into the void where the grand staircase once stood. Stern, however, is a jumbled mess of metal. This part of the sea has collapsed due to the cork sticking to the seabed.
In the surrounding debris field, the ship's ornate metalwork, statues and unopened champagne bottles are strewn about. There is also personal property, including dozens of shoes resting on the sediment.
The Titanic has been extensively explored since the wreck was discovered in 1985. But it's so big that, in the imaging darkness, the cameras can only ever show us tantalizing snapshots of the decaying program—none of the whole.
The new scan captures the wreck in its entirety, revealing a complete view of Titanic's life. It is in two parts, with the bow and stern separated by 800 meters (2,600 ft). A large debris field surrounds the Iron Vessel.
The scan will take place in the summer of 2022 by ocean mapping company Magellan Ltd and a documentary film about the project was made by Atlantic Productions. Remotely controlled submersibles by an expedition team spent more than 200 hours surveying the length of the wreck. The team took more than 70,000 images of the scene, creating an exact 3D reconstruction.

Parks Stephenson, who has studied the Titanic for years, said he was "blown away" when he first saw the scans. "It's possible you'll never see wreckage from a submersible.
He assured that studying the scans could provide new insights into what happened to the Titanic on that fateful night in 1912.
