What do you like about crypto?

in blurt •  3 years ago

Hey Blurt! I'm DRutter, and I'm new here. I want to hear about what got you into cryptocurrencies. How did you get your start on the blockchain? What do cryptos offer you? Do you have goals on Blurt? What do you like about crypto? To cover your comment fee, upvotes worth between 15 and 20 BLURT will be provided for all correct answers... and all answers are correct! Have fun with your comments and reading through the other responses!

If you're interested in my answer, I'm going to do a full article on that soon, complete with a tutorial for content-creators like me who want to know how to convert Blurt into food on the table! It can be done, and I'm going to show you how. In the meantime, I can't wait to hear some replies to my questions!

As for prices...

Yes, we are currently in a crypto pullback (sparked by a collapsing stock market and record high US dollar). BLURT is down, but not as much as the overall market is! If you're in crypto, BLURT is a good place to be. And when markets recover, we'll be in a really good position.

While it's cheap is a great time to accumulate!

I'm having a lot of fun on Blurt, getting to know people and the platform. This is such a great place to create content and invest. I'm still trying to find my Blurt audience, and get a feel for who/what is here, topics we have in common, and the norms of this community. Your engagement is appreciated! Please follow along, and let me know if you post similar content so I can follow you back.

Big thanks and much love to the people I've already found here on Blurt - what a great community! If the ones I haven't bumped into yet (and all the new people coming on board) are anywhere near as awesome as they are, this is going to be outstanding.

PS: I just joined the Quarter Million Blurt club!

I started with BTC back in 2012 or 2013. Back then BTC was worth about 200-300 bucks... I also invested in a lot of DOGE 2 or 3 years later..

Buying BTC in 2012, nice! I have never been an investor. But I do believe in savings! For money (store of physical value) I have silver bullion, and for currency (fast transfers) I have crypto. I have no bank account, credit cards, PayPal, etc. I have no way to buy crypto, except with other crypto, or to earn it like I'm doing with this blog. I heard about Bitcoin in 2011 and told hundreds of thousands of YouTube viewers about it. Many got rich in 2013 through 2017 on my chart analysis and long term calls. People said I was crazy to not invest but I've stuck to my convictions. I'm hoping to be able to earn some crypto to pay bills and buy food, so I can be less reliant on the government, supermarkets, banks, and corporations.
Hmmm I recall advising you to exit Shiba Inu at the exact top.... it has fallen about 80% since then. Maybe now is a good time to tuck some away, what do you think?
Thanks for commenting buddy! #letsgrowblurt

Looking forward to your vote! 😜

Done!!

I'm currently dishing out 18.4 B per full upvote, so up to 184 per day if I curate responsibly :)

You have 70k BP, so your full upvotes should now be worth about 5.1 B each! Well over 0.1 USD per click, that's getting juicy. Imagine how it will feel when BLURT goes up, and your stack increases, and suddenly your "Likes" are handing out a few bucks at a time?

I commented on your witness announcement post: https://blurt.blog/witness/@drutter/rcasva

Congrats!
Stay powerful, and #letsgrowblurt !!!

Thank you mate! I will keep it toggled between 90 and 100%👌🏽🌞🍀

I am just dipping my toes in here and in crypto in general. I would say I am a beginner and feel mighty proud that I figured out ionomy. It is heartening to see people coming and loading up.

This coin does feel cheap and for that I have orders in to buy more.

Although I am not so expert in ionomy to know for sure if they are in 😀

I haven't figured out or even used ionomy, so in that way you're less a beginner than me!
It does feel cheap, compared to other cryptos like HIVE. This blockchain has a lot to offer and mostly just suffers from lack of exposure (there's little incentive to advertise it on Steem or Hive!) If it continues to gain adoption, the price should rise toward or past HIVE's.
Ghost Ship was also a Magic card back in the day, I liked that one.

It was a Magic card! name stuck with me.

What do you use to buy Blurt? Ionomy is quite bad to use. I would be pleased not to have to

Hahah, nice.
Oh, I just use the default method available on Hive... log in to hive-engine.com and Deposit HIVE, use it to buy BLURT, and Withdraw it. I guess they take 0.75% on the way in, and the way out, but otherwise no fees.
I'm going to do a tutorial soon, on how I move BLURT back out to other cryptos, and then to groceries at my local shop... without bank accounts or smart devices... since I do not have bank accounts or smart devices : )

I will keep a lookout for this. I haven't used hive-engine either. I will visit and see if it looks easier to use. Thanks mate!

Oh, haven't you?
If you've used Hive at all in the past couple years, you've got some tokens waiting for you in hive-engine. So yeah, just log in using your posting key and check it out. If you do any trades/transfers it will ask for your active key. Been pretty reliable for me, as far as I know quite a lot of Hive members also use it. Just the little fee for coming and going. Who knows, maybe you have a couple hundred bucks in various tokens accumulated there? Depends on your level of participation on Hive, what communities you comment in, etc.

I don't even know what Hive is! I haven't looked too much into all these social media places. I checked the hive-engine page last night. It wanted me to sign up. The less places I sign up to the better in my book.

But that might be paranoia from years of weed 😊

Haha, maybe, or maybe it's just annoyance at having to remember/write down so many passwords keys, secret codes, backup phrases, PINs, etc...
I tend to be a minimalist, myself.
And paranoid.
But anyway, that answers the question of any tokens on hive-engine... if you haven't been using Hive there aren't any. In fact, as you noticed, you don't have an account there. It may only be for Hive users, I'm not sure.
Hive and Blurt are copies of the Steem blockchain. Hive has downvotes and a "reputation score" to keep down spam, instead of a fee to make posts and comments. There are pros and cons. I'm here on Blurt after a long time on Steem and then Hive, because of censorship on Hive - people are using large investments plus the downvote button to silence smaller voices, like me. It can't happen on Blurt. Otherwise, much is the same about the blockchains, aside from human involvement. Not everybody on Hive has heard of Blurt.
Ghost Ship was reprinted recently. They reprinted a LOT of old stuff I never thought they would. I prefer the original, I think it was from Legends (1994).

Congrats on making it to the 1/4 million blurt club. So what do I like about crypto. It's a world of opportunity that simply did not exist just a handful of years ago. Combined with that you have far greater financial freedom outside of the highly regulated banking system. How about 50 dollar wire transfer fee, gone! click click click and you just sent whatever to whereever for next to nothing. That's a revolution in it's own right. So many reason to love crypto, just diversify outside of crypto, and do your best to exit on a parabolic move when you see one. Timing and controlling greed (aka staying in the market too long) has never been so important as the the volatility of this stuff is truly off the charts. Great concept. Great post. Re-Blurted!

Thanks man!
Nicely said on the advantages of crypto. Yes, I remember paying $50 for a wire! Not that I did it often, maybe once a year on average, but still. It's so nice to have cryptos like HIVE and BLURT that have little or no fees for moving it around. That said, I do find crypto fees to be higher than some people claim they are. They're not usually zero (except within closed systems like HIVE), and in fact can amount to quite a lot. And since they are usually based on the size of the transfer, not a flat rate, sometimes they can be well over $50.
Also, they aren't always instant, as many crypto enthusiasts claim... many can take time, sometimes a lot of time. Some crypto actions can take several steps, through several doorways/bottlenecks with fees and delays. I currently need days (and a lot of fees) to do anything at all with my crypto other than sit on it. Without a bank, many crypto actions aren't available at all, and others take several steps and workarounds. "Instant and free" are very rare in crypto land. Maybe one or the other, but rarely both at the same time in my experience thus far.
As I alluded to before, I have some uncommon beliefs about money, currency, banking, investing, and related topics! One stance I've picked up is that I don't personally put profits/success above things like privacy or decentralization. If crypto doesn't offer me more privacy and decentralization than traditional banking, I don't want to get involved. I don't care about potential gains, or convenience, or lower fees, if I don't get what actually makes crypto, crypto. If it can't be used in a private and decentralized way, without involving corporations, banks, and governments, it's not really crypto, it's just another digital currency and path to a cashless economy. I've held these beliefs for many years, some right from day 1 of crypto when I first started analyzing it and producing content on it in 2011, and I'm always open to discussing them, but most people find them so different from their current understanding, they're not interested. I understand if you just prefer to nod, smile, and walk calmly in the other direction. No offense taken in that case : ))

Much respect to you and your wife holding steadfast to your beliefs.

On another note...I use litecoin for moving chunks of money around. Cheap, fast, popular, and easy to trade. Sometime I got from USDT stable coin or Bitcoin into litecoin...make the transfer then go tade that into Thai baht and go to the ATM machine. All done in about 15, 20 minutes.

Litecoin sounds like a very easy crypto for people with a bank account to use. I've always admired it for being so much cheaper than BTC, but essentially just as good (or better). It's a bit like silver... undervalued, smaller market, could have larger potential moves. But in the meantime it's faster and cheaper to use as a currency. And accepted in a fair number of places. I would not hesitate to use/hold some LTC if the opportunity arises. I appreciate your recommendation.

I like crypto because this is the future and I need to get used to it. :) Also I like the real chance that you get with crypto to obtain some nice gains if patient enough, even the staking part from 10 to 20% APR, what sane bank offers you that? NONE!

I have no goals in RL, so no goals on Blurt either, I just go with the flow.

I hate crypto. But free money so I like that part.

Yes! I like earning money for my content. And I'm with you on hating crypto, although I also find it interesting and potentially disruptive to my enemies in the legacy banking scheme. But I do think it is really frustrating the way it has been adopted/co-opted. For example, it's VERY hard to actually use crypto in a private and/or decentralized way. The theory is there, but it hasn't panned out well in the real world. (Yet?)
How about you, what are your main qualms?

The people suck. Too addicted to their shit. At least most bankers don't say to join their bank every 5 seconds.

Hehehe, true! But that's because they've already got 99% of the population in their clutches, no need to advertise/evangelize their message. They got us by the hairy berries!
But yeah, I hate the whole "rocketshits to the moon" mentality behind so much of the crypto sphere. I talked about BTC since 2011 on my YouTube channel, never got a single subscription for it, even though I accurately predicted the price action nonstop for 10 years straight. Anyone who used a rocketship icon to advertise their YouTube channel went instantly to 1 million plus subscribers, even though they only started in 2017, and may have never made a single correct call. Maybe that's because my channel also talked about a lot of other truth... I was one of the first to notice and talk about shadowbanning, when that was still a conspiracy theory back in 2012, six years before YouTube came out and admitted they'd been doing it for years. I've been warning about this whole Covid powergrab and globalist takeover for 15 years, was censored more and more and more until now, when I can't even reach 100 viewers with important videos. I used to get 3000+ views on the most mundane or routine of topics. Totally controlled, just like CBC, CNN, and all the state media outlets. The crypto bros aren't helping anything with their "to the moon" crap, and self-promoting content. Ooooh, I made myself a Crptobro Token, invest now! Arrrrrrrggg....
