There's a story of a blind girl whose father gave her a lamp to carry as she walked in a stormy night, and when she asked what she needed it for, since she was blind, her father told her that it was not for her use but for the use of those who had use of sight. She was taught to carry a light for others, and so should we. The world doesn't revolve around you, and everything should not be about you, sometimes you just do it for others.
There's so much darkness in the world, and some bit of light, no matter how small, will make a clear difference. As humans, we are called to be bearers of light in a world full of darkness, and holding a light for others can be a great way to evangelize and enlighten people in the way of love and the part of Justice. You may not need it but someone else or some other people may be in dire need of it; but if we wait for only when we need light to hold a light, we may deprive people of their saving grace, plus, when we ourselves will be in need of some light, there will be no one to hold a light for us as well, because the culture of holding a light for others would not have been emplaced.
This world can be healed with some less selfishness, hold a light for others and there will be others to hold a light for you when you need it. Do not forget that as long as we are in this life, we will have our days in the sun and our days in the tunnel. Let us fill the world with lights, and it will be more beautiful.
Peace be with you!
