About Calonarang Dance Drama

The Calonarang dance drama tells the story of a legendary antagonist on the island of the Gods, Bali, and is even quite popular in his hometown in Kediri Regency, East Java. The popularity of this story is not because of its goodness but its evil mastering black magic that interferes with the lives of others and causes misery.

Although the original story is not from Bali, the Calonarang dance drama is very popular here. Appointed in a dance drama performance, the theme carried is mystical and horror, even this folk art is not performed in any place or time, so folk art performances are quite rare to find.

Calonarang himself is known to be a very scary imitation, mastering high-level leak science so he is very feared. A number of dance drama groups on the island of the Gods, Bali, are special in presenting this dance performance.
