Content Etiquette | What You need To know About Plagirism & How To Refrain From It.

Hello friends, welcome to my blog once again. I'm writing in response to the call against plagiarism by @blurtribe. Indeed plagiarism is an attitude that deserves a penalty.

I have been blogging for some years now, and with my experience, I want to say that plagiarism is not just copying and borrowing people's work but an act of stealing, presenting other people's work as your work without crediting the real author.

An act of plagiarism can also be seen as a fraudulent activity, why? this is because it has to do with stealing and presenting the work rather than crediting the actual source. Refrain from plagiarism! There are too many kinds of plagiarism. Follow me as I will explain a few of them.

Types of Plagiarism


Knowing full well that words and ideas can actually be stolen, we will take a look at different kinds of ways/strategies that words & ideas are been stolen.

  • Direct Plagiarism - This is a kind of plagiarism where content is been copied line to line/word to word without giving a proper citation of where it copied from. This kind of plagiarism is very common in many blogging systems.

  • Self Plagiarism - Another kind of plagiarism that users may not take seriously but it is actually serious because it involves you copying previous work without giving a direct source of where you first published it.

  • Mosaic Plagiarism - Mosaic plagiarism, is when someone's work is been presented in a way that both the reader and the owner would not have any clue or detect that the content is not original. How is it done? an author can paraphrase closely, or change the words by synonyms. This kind can be seen as one of the punishable plagiarise attitudes.

  • Deliberate Plagiarism - Another Kind of plagiarism that involves the author copying directly from the original content without considering the consequences, and without the author's consent. The main motive of this type of plagiarism is to be rewarded instead of the actual author.

The aforementioned types are just but a few of the types of plagiarism. There are other ones that couldn't be mentioned. These types of plagiarism are strictly prohibited in every writing platform, in as much as you here, you will adhere to content etiquette or you face the penalty.

  • The Importance Of Citation - Citation is when you copy other people's work and you didn't fail to acknowledge the fact that it was copied, and as such you gave a reference. Giving reference actually means crediting the original owner of your content.

  • Quotation Mark Is Vital - Quotation mark in its simplest meaning is adding some symbols like (' ') & (" ") to indicate that the word is actually borrowed or it is relating to other meanings. Adding quotations to your content can make your content free from plagiarism.

  • Making Use Of Plagiarism Checker - There are too many tools that are used to automatically scrutinize plagiarized content, so it is very imperative you check with these tools before publishing your content.

The above methods are ways of avoiding plagiarism in your article/content. The last method has different kinds of tools like:

The aforementioned plagiarism tools are just but a few of them on the internet. As a content creator, you are advised to make use of these tools. In as much content development is concerned, plagiarism is an illegal act. Refrain from it, and you will enjoy a successful blogging journey.
