Testing Anonymous Bitcoin Ads on Blurt.blog

in blurt •  2 years ago

Recently ads were placed on the community dev blog sites blurt.one and blurt.live using the Anonymous Ads service, their announcement post can be seen here:

https://blurt.blog/blurt/@blurt.one/unofficial-development-updates-7-or-27-july-2022-or-ads-on-blurt-one-or-updates-sync-blurt-live

Our frontend developer @tekraze maintains these sites as well so we chatted to him about testing out the same ad functionality on blurt.blog to see the results. According to Cloudflare analytics, our stats are quite strong with 25K visits per week and over 114K views in this same period.

These banner ad features have now been deployed and we will monitor the income stream to see if it is a viable solution to supplement Blurt Core income for development, infrastructure, and potential Blurt buybacks.

The ad banners currently feature above the post list but we may change this to only show in between every 5 or so posts upon scrolling.

They also feature on the post pages above the comments, we may play with the banner sizes here a bit more and potentially place a banner between every 10 comments.

The ads iframes that will show a banner/image/link to affiliate sites or services. Users are free to click on the ads to support us, or they can ignore them as well.

There is no tracking like Google Ads, so users do not need to be concerned about privacy. We have noticed Dtube is testing this ad service as well.

Great initiative to supplement blurt's core income for development. Hope to see the progress of this and the proceeds used for future blurt buybac. Thumbs up to the devs.

What will be done with future ad income?

;-p

I actually like the buyback idea.

Given that Blurt already has a coin income stream, buybacks are useful - it isn't the "scarcity" of naive economics, it's that it slightly increases the yield. BNB does that a lot - just like corp shares - buyback before a dividend distro to increase returns. That then may increase the price, other things being equal.

Answering your own questions? 🤔🤣 Interesting alternative income stream! 😆

haha in this case was covering for my dumb first comment as hadn't read it properly! But yeah, sometimes is like a Socratic dialogue - you know it's Plato on both sides ;-)

🤣🤣🤣

Thanks... I think!
I still can't see most of those emjis - they just render as blocks.
Anyone who can be bothered to fix this... could fix it. lmao

:D :D :D

You're so old school! ;-)

In my personal opinion, I'm not bothered by this ad. Moreover, as has been explained, that revenue from advertising will later be used for Blurt development and also buybacks.

Wow great news. Thanks a lot blurtofficial for sharing this nice post.

Great news. This extra income should be used as stated for buybacks and developments. Let's go Blurt!

According to my personal view, these banner ads will never disturb me in using blurt blog. If we check the front end of the blog there is plenty of free space which blurt can earn some extra income. https://www.publish0x.com/ is a very good example of that. Of course, this income will help to make blurt.blog a better place. Good decision.
