I was stopped in Angoda too!
Upul who donated blood 240 times says
He was a boyfriend with the tsunami. But he was also a victim of a love tsunami because his deeds that did not match his girlfriend. No one could stop his blood donation even though he lost a cent in his hand. Today he is the most blood donated person in Sri Lanka.
Day 26th of the year 1991 An eight year old stubborn boy named Yatagama Gamage Nandana Upul Kumara left Karapitiya to Colombo that day. This sudden departure is a heartbreak with mother at Mahagedara. He knew the road from Karapitiya to Galle town until he entered the North Colombo bus, but that boy had no idea what to do in Colombo.
With the word Colombo, next he remembers the name of "Veerathunga". Upul knew that Weerathunga, a friend of the village, was working in a Colombo printer at that time. If we can find Weerathunga, we will find a place to sleep at night. Luckily met the Duke Print of Maradana and Weerathunga, the boy who came asking for the road from the end of the bus journey from the Colombo Fort.
While getting down to the road with his mother, he had a hundred rupees collected into his pocket from the grocery store drawer at home. There's something to be earned for expense before that side expires. Weerathunga was the one who gave a cancellation about a job and was the guide for that work. Siril Perera of Maradana and company as a designer of advertising board, Upul started painting his own life.
One day a workplace received a message that a friend's father was suddenly drowned and was undergoing treatment in Colombo hospital and he had blood pressure. Upul came up saying "I'm giving blood" because no one is interested in it. Upul had a big heart even though he was only exactly ten eight years old and weighed exactly fifty kilos. "Hey the fucker. Even though friends shouted that they will give you some blood from the hospital, this son is not the one who took back the foot forward!
"I remember the first day I donated blood." January twenty eighth of those sixteen. I walked from work to the hospital on foot. My chest started beating fast when I saw the chairs, wires, bones, tipes that sit to give blood.
Doctors said there saying "pressure is too high son, let's relax a bit and bleed" This is how I remember the first day I donated blood. It's funny when I remember it now" Twenty years old, the Upul started the story with a past.
International Blood Transfusion Day will be held this week coming June 14th. So far, Upul has donated blood from his body is 240 times. While life is getting lost, the number of people who got back life due to uproar is ten hundred and forty. Upul's name comes in front of the man who donated blood most times in Sri Lanka.
It's not an easy paramount. Painful is a hard exercise. That time flies by, it became good for the soul. Removed all the problems in my heart and made friends with my mother again. Meanwhile, I started my own business with the help of a dear monk who was in Parakumba Pirivena in Kotte. "I didn't have time to think about loneliness in my life unless I was minding business." Met someone like that on December 26, 2004. Exactly a tsunami day I got to know a girl. It is not clear whether it is happiness or sadness that is drawn in Upul's eyes. He just keeps on talking.
"Because we decided to get married, I without a doubt put the child's name and developed the partnership business called Udith Creation." Back then I had expanded my business to aluminum fabricating, building construction, graphic design, digital painting side. Meanwhile I did blood donation every three months without breaking it. Turned more towards Buddhism. "
“Damn I let the girl I was marrying to get this stuff done”. He fought with me saying that donating blood and talking about Buddha's preaching is my mental nonsense. Finally together with her relatives and I was stopped at Angoda mental hospital. I had no sickness at all. There doctors rushed me to a ten day observation program and sent me home saying I was sick. "
“When I got home that girl stole all our partnership assets and hid somewhere.” There was no use even filing cases as soon as they came out. I just fell at the zero. "The girlfriend I met on the day of the Tsunami had a tsunami in my life. Only mother was left to make Upul's mind.
"Did a variety of jobs since then. Worked on a carpenter. Done working in the morning in the naughty. The bus conductor was also done. After saving money like this, started a business named "Udith Creation" in Koswatte, Battaramulla. Donated blood once every three months without breaking any tsunami. "
"In the year 2008 I found out that blood donation can be done every two weeks." From then till now I will donate blood tablets every two weeks without fail. Donating blood for the 240th time this week. Medical staff of Maharagama Apeksha Hospital and Narahenpita blood transfusion center welcome me like a good friend. Those gentlemen give me a call as soon as I get a B positive list. No matter what the work is at any time of the day they know I'm coming. "
"Maybe I see the patient asking for blood is a Tamil, Muslim. I will donate blood to anyone with great pleasure. No matter what the race or religion is, the same blood runs on everyone. "Upul is a way of teaching a lesson."
"But I've never been interested in finding out who my blood is." Exactly the only time I've seen a patient who took blood forty times in this country. When I donated blood to a resident of Maharagama Apeksha Hospital who had blood cancer, the father of that child took me forcefully and showed me the disease. Seven years old. Not even a single hair on the head. That day I was most afraid of this life. " He says "
"To give blood every two weeks, we must be in good health." I walk at least four kilometers a day. Vegetarian since I remember though. It's a habit I got from my dad. I haven't been sick in all forty five years because of veganism. No pressure, cholesterol, diabetes. "
Upul says it in light. Upul's biggest hope is to be free by donating eyes and body after death. Until then, the skin, flesh and veins of that body runs through the veins is the most precious humanity that a human on earth.
