500 years old women
Finding the underwear
Medieval Age underwear
Shows the history of underwear
The Medieval Age underwear found under the basement of an Austrian castle does not comply with the standards today.
But the discovery indicates that 15th century European women were proud of their appearance and maybe not just privileged classes.
The University of Innsbruck announced that the "oldest underwear in the world was discovered in Longburg Castle, Tyrol, Western Austria.
Cotton dresses decorated with lace and embroidery as of today. It won't be an extension to say such underwear was designed for those "special occasions", scientists say.
In the heart of Tyrol, the city of Innsburke is an area covered by the tops of the alpine mountains. These items were found during the renovation of the castle in summer 2008. The castle is located just south of the city.
Four Thisara cubes were found in the middle of cotton materials, clothes and a lot of leather shoes under the third floor.
Testing carbon by the University's archaeological research team made these dresses a period between 1440 and 1485, becoming the oldest.
