Poor and lonely when it comes
This is my father and father.
Clearly he wasn't the father of my actual birth.
But, as soon as I went to Thailand, I was informed that he was my new Thai father. He even told my parents when they left “Charissa is your daughter when she is in America. But in Thailand she is my daughter I will always take care of her "
When I first came I was helpless, lonely and unable to speak the language. Dr. Jao did everything he could for me to make Thai life easier. He let his students hang with me so that I wouldn't be alone. He made his other students take me to breakfast, lunch and dinner to help me order food. He got a phone plan for me Whenever I go anywhere he texted me to let him know I'm safe. He gave me a bike to borrow when I said I need my own transportation. Other graduate students called me “Dr. The princess of Jao". As in.
I really couldn’t live here without him.
Everyday Dr. Jao takes me and his other student to lunch. He pays for our food and talks until we finish eating.
And then taking us to the coffee shop. He always orders hot cocoa. I always thought hot cocoa was a winter treat, but my parents likes to drink hot cocoa everyday, it's the true happiness of his life.
Dr. Jao sits with us for an hour or so. Sometimes he tells me about his childhood. He likes to talk about my travels sometimes. Some days you just need to laugh and joke. She likes to train me to talk Thai.
This is my absolute favorite part of every day, it brings me so much joy.
When I think about leaving Thailand after graduation, drinking hot cocoa with my dad and dad I'm really going to miss it.
