Any post that does not meet the overall standard and usability of blurt is a low quality post.
Therefore your post is said to be of low quality if it has either of the following attributes and attachments:

Very little text in the main post.

There is need to include an elaborative text on your post which gives your reader the basic and complete understanding of what message you are trying to convey.
We have seen a lot of post where new blurt users post pictures with little or no text to define the real essence of the said photos. Some of this photos despite not being the posters original photos are not sourced.
As a good content creator, It is expedient that you include the camera specifications of the photo you snapped or the source of the images when they don't belong to you.

Your post is meant to be complete and concise enough to get the interest of your reader.
Your post should be self explanatory, this way your reader can easily upvote you if the post fits his line of interest.

Factual Errors

Your post should be able to meet the mark of what it is set to achieve.
Avoid factual errors along with poorly explained sections.

In general, If your post does not serve much purpose for your reader and the audience then it is of low quality.

What is Plagiarism?

Copying of someone's work of art without proper acknowledgement is well known as Plagiarism. It's greatly discouraged when writing be it for academic purposes or for pleasure writing.

When one plagiarize, the integrity of the work is at stake and it's considered inappropriate. Both the writer and the plagiarized work risks loosing credibility and a breach of creative writing is established.

The Merriam-Webster online dictionary describes plagiarism to mean and I quote:

Stealing the ideas or write-ups of another author and posing it off as ones original content. It's an act of literature theft by the plagiarized author.Source

Types or Kinds of Plagiarism

There exists various types of plagiarism such as:

  • Direct Plagiarism
  • Mosaic Plagiarism
  • Self-Plagiarism
  • Accidental Plagiarism

Direct Plagiarism

The most common type of plagiarism that exists is this direct plagiarism. Here, the author literally copies in full content another person's work without any form of paraphrase and citation. Not a single word or symbol is replaced with the original word.

This is a grievous offense in the literally world and such plagiarist is usually called to order for disciplinary actions to be taken. It's highly unethical and to think that the plagiarist deliberately committed the crime makes it totally unacceptable.

A form of Direct Plagiarism is given below. Source added to the post.

Happiness is an emotional state characterized by feelings of joy, satisfaction, contentment, and fulfillment.Source

Mosaic Plagiarism

This type of plagiarism comes in form of borrowing certain words from a whole article without directly quoting it or sourcing the quote with the use of a quotation mark or symbol. The writer might not intend to necessarily copy the whole write up but the mistake of borrowing a few phrases without sourcing it makes it a plagiarized content.

Writers usually use this form of plagiarism in a bit to boost their literal work. However there are ways to do it without commiting plagiarism. Whatever information gotten from a source wether paraphrased or copy and paste should be directly and properly sourced by the writer.

Self-Plagiarism

This form of plagiarism is popularized by high schoolers and college students. Tracking this kind of plagiarism is usually difficult when it's handwritten. There is no way to go back and check it out one by one for plagiarism.

Here the student is liable to submit almost the same work twice with a little paraphrasing without proper citation. This is considered as Self-Plagiarism. One good thing that students enjoy in this form of plagiarism is that it doesn't have severe consequences that can affect them academically.

Accidental Plagiarism

This is last of the listed forms of Plagiarism above. Here the plagiarist identifies with a particular phrase or content and doesn't source is properly by maybe misplacing the correct source with the wrong one.

Whatever the intention might be, accidental Plagiarism comes with its own consequences and actions.

Plagiarism Tools

To be on the safe side, it's always good to check using some verified plagiarism tools to check for the authenticity of a work. While some research work gives a percentage allowed for unoriginal content others don't.

These tools are as follows:

Thank you for addressing the low quality aspect. This community is very rife with low quality posts. Pictures without any words or just a few words. Text book like writing without much soul. It gets boring at times and my votes have really reflected it as of late. For the past 3 weeks I have been trying to catch up I was 4 days behind for some time, then 3 days then like the last week or 2 I have been 2 days behind on my curating. I am almost there but my vote power is almost down to 50% each day. Trust me I will have to be more selective and quality and plagiarism are two big determiners.

The funny thing that I have noticed for sometime on #blurtafrica is whenever I comment about plagiarism on a post which I do very nicely they stop using the tag or disappear entirely. They know very well what they are doing and get scared off very easy.

The most common form of plagiarism I see is someone recycling their own posts from a couple of weeks back. I can usually remember if I have read or seen something before, and I will go back and look.

Anything that seems too text book and just informative without much of a personal aspect or soul to it I almost never vote it now, because 1 it is boring and usually off topic to blurt africa, and 2 it is not worth my time to do a check on it. The best way to make sure your content is seen as original and relevant is to personalize it, give it some soul and some life.

Thanks for the post on #blurtafrica. You have been manually curated by @leifasaur.

If you want to support my curation further, please delegate and vote for my posts that you find quality also

Thank you for throwing more light on this recurring issue. The recycling of post is another aspect I needed to highlight. A lot of plagiarised post are being made daily, people are misusing tags too. We need them to understand that blurt open harms should not be overlooked. We will do our best to keep reiterating this matter until we start having more of quality contents on blurt.

Thank you once again @leifasaur for taking your time to educate us more through this comment.

The best way to avoid plagiarism is to use paraphrasing techniques. An author may write something in different ways in the same language (this does not include the language in which it is translated), and that is justified under any writing law.

Of course, it is not an easy matter to avoid plagiarism, because there are no completely new words or sentences. This also makes most people afraid to write something in the form of long sentences.

Even if you have to quote a few sentences from other sources, it's best to simplify it by choosing different words without losing their real meaning.

Yes I totally agree with you. Paraphrasing technique is one of the best ways to avoid plagiarism.

We are advocating for quality contents on blurt for better and sustainable manual curations.
Which ever way a member tends to achieve this is very welcomed by us.
