Pol Pot was a Cambodian political leader who served as General Secretary of the Cambodian Communist Party from 1963 to 1981. Pol Pot was the head of Cambodia's communist organization, the Khmer Rouge.
His hardline communist administration removed millions of citizens shortly after assuming control, and any who objected to him were forced to starve to death.
From 1975 to 1970, an estimated 1.5–2 million Cambodians died as a result of forced labor, torture, malnutrition, sickness, and execution during his regime. All of this occurred in the guise of radical social and agricultural transformation.
Approximately 20,000 mass burial sites known as The Cambodian Killing Fields were established during the Genocide.
