I have had a lot of fun writing about this idea of how, in our very own world, humanity is at war and our own culture has been at war for years. In the current era of modern social media, where individuals and groups are so often treated as having a shared view of the world and the world itself, I feel that there is still something a little bit strange about writing about the past. A lot of what we write about will be shaped by cultural pressures and prejudices, but the things we discuss are often about people we know today. In the past two decades, there was a time when we were in the midst of a civil war between two camps, but as now we are, in the new digital era, in a different place. A lot of what we do is a reflection on that Civil War. I look at our online lives very narrowly—I think one of the things I find especially fascinating about the past is that we were constantly changing, on and off the internet, looking at the world through different perspectives (we often end up with very different perspectives), but the reality is that if you look at a lot of things online today, such as movies, music, news articles, etc., you may notice changes, but there are so many changes that it's very difficult to even keep track of them and make some progress.
