Before we started our road trip to the Garden Route 2 days ago we drove down the Cape Peninsula to see the famous African Penguin.
On the east side of the peninsula there is a beach called Boulders Beach. This beach lays in a town with the name Simons Town, here you will have a 100% chance to see the wild african penguin. It´s not like with other wild animals where you have a 20% chance to see them, no, you can be absolutely sure that you won´t go home without seeing them.
It´s roughly an one hour drive from cape town away and it is so worth it. if you don´t have much time I would suggest to spend the whole day exploring the peninsula, but since we got months of time we only went to see the penguin.
We knew that they charge an entry fee of round about 10 Euro but since we´re not big fans of paying money to see animals we tried our luck without going on the famous Boulder Beach. Just a little bit further north is a small beach with a car park called Seaforth Beach. That beach is not only perfect for a refreshing swim, you can also see a few Penguins there without paying the entry fee.
We always prefer to explore things on our own and once again we were lucky.
I forgot to mention that you should bring a windbreaker jacket as the wind down here is nothing you have experienced before. It´s crazy. The good thing with the wind is that there weren´t much people around. That changed when we walked towards the entry of the Main penguin Beach were you have to pay.
Luckily there is a wooden paths all long above the beach from where you have an amazing view on the Boulder Beach that indeed is an amazingly beautiful one.
It´s a must to bring your tele lens as you can see the penguins on the main beach from the wooden pathway.
If you want to see the Pengus without paying for the entrance to a beach, here comes the trick. Walk on the wooden path and simply open your eyes. The penguins are literally everywhere and again you got a 100% chance to see one from very close as use the shady bushes near the pathway to hide from the heat.
The only thing I would pay for on a hot day is to jump in that crystal clear water down at Boulder Beach, what many people did despite the cold wind on that day.
It was a great little journey down there and a good attunement to the wildlife we´re going to experience in the coming three weeks. Next time we´re going down there we will be exploring the rest of the peninsula.

What a sight! This is a good experience and an adorable one.
With penguins, there are usually so many of them in an open place and you get to enjoy the beautiful sight whenever you are at a good range. These pictures are well taken.
