My earliest works when I started drawing portraits were mostly of Travis Fimmel (that is the time he played the role of Lothar in the Warcraft Beginning movie). I was so much in love with not just his face but the character and as a result I explored the WOW universe and believe me it was massive. One of the things that drove me to such extensive exploration was their story telling technique. In the Universe, everything is significant and properly thought out and if peradventure it wasn't, they would make up another story to cover up the lapses or start a redial..... Brilliant.
It was on one of my explorations back then that I came across Gromash Hellscream and his son Garrosh. And though this particular card (Grum Flameblade) looks a lot like Garrosh I decided to make him have a semblance with Dorothan's closest friend.
The making of this piece, especially the face took a lot of time, impressions and layers. I just didn't notice the mistake in the jaw placement on time. The armor on his right arm is just there for decoration and I didn't want it to be the same shade as his body. I promise though to work better on that henceforth so as to make my sketches more realistic. The sword, I intentionally made faint but from my viewpoint at the end, I noticed it was smaller than his body.
If however you look at the original lineart I made you would notice the sword in the lineart is much larger than the one I eventually drew.
One more thing, please forgive the fact that I changed the shape and nature of his chain, it seemed fair to turn them into teeths since that was typical of Orcs and besides, my reference had something similar.
Directly below is the lineart and following is the process.....
Judging from the intensity of this post, I trust you had a good read.
