I recently learned that the AMA was founded to thwart homeopathy, which was cutting into their profits because it was curing diseases that conventional medicine saw its patients dying of. Allopathic doctors felt threatened that their patients were getting well instead of kicking the bucket, and the AMA was born. They went so far as to forbid membership to anyone who either practiced homeopathy, even if it was alongside allopathy, or was married to someone who did. Sounds so familiar!
