The Power of Our Behaviors and Habits

in blurt-192372 •  7 months ago

Our actions often show what kind of person we are. We make sure that our actions and habits fit the type of person we think of ourselves as.

How much respect we have for ourselves is directly linked to how we see ourselves. If I say I'm disciplined, I try to have good habits and behaviours that show I can control myself and be disciplined.

On the other hand, if I call myself "lazy," I tend to keep doing the things that make me look lazy.

The identities we take on give us character. Can the connection we feel with the heroes we see in movies also help us decide how to act?

In a similar study, we look at how kids' traits like persistence and self-control can be changed by how much they identify with a superhero. Some kids are dressed up as Batman, and it has been noticed that they act more consistently and with self-control.

Kids often act in ways that meet the requirements for being like Batman because of the costume they wear and the directions that come with it.

It seems that watching films with people we can relate to can help us change the way we act and do things.

One thing that all of these studies have in common is that people behave better when they feel better about their own worth.

We feel more important when we can vote, when we are assigned as an assistant, and when we identify with Batman.

It seems like an existential problem to me to adopt behaviours and habits that are in line with the fact that we are valued and respected. If we have a name that proves we exist, we are more likely to do things that make us feel good about being alive.

To sum up, just like 65% of our bodies are air, our habits and behaviors make up a big part of who we are.

It's possible that how we see ourselves doesn't affect how we act, but how we act may affect who we are. That is, it would be more true to say that both determine each other.
