Hello everyone.
Some time back while visiting Germany and Cologne we visited Hohenzollern Bridge.
Beautiful steel bridge over river Rhine.
Hohenzollern Bridge is 409 meters in length (409.19 to be precise). It is one of the most used bridges in Germany with 1200 daily trains passing through.
Bridge was built from 1907 to 1911. (info from wikipedia)
Other interesting thing about Hohenzollern Bridge is love padlocks all over the fence of the bridge.
It is very interesting to see so many different padlocks everywhere where they can be locked.
First look at Hohenzollern Bridge. At the start you can see love padlocks all over the railings.
Putting love padlocks started in 2008. Since then thousands people put their names to show their love, friendship or memories. In 2011 it was estimated that there is around 40 000 padlcosk on the bridge. In 2018 estimate was somewhere between 50 000 to 200 000 padlocks. What a number. Weight is around 45 tones. And it does not affect statics of the bridge.
Every place where you can lock the padlock can be yours.
Pedestrian area on the bridge is covered in padlocks. Such beautiful and interesting sight.
So many padlocks with different engravings, names and dates. So many memories.
I assume who ever visit and puts their love padlock here when comes again tries to find their padlock.
Quite a task with so many different yet similar padlocks.
Padlocks everywhere. Street signs? You bet.
Padlocks look quite nice on the bridge fence.
Closer look to some of the love padlocks. Some of them are already engraved, others carved by hand.
