I cringe when someone critiques my work. I sent 60 paper paintings out to Edgeworth Johnstone’s studio in London last summer. Charles Thomson called me on What’s app and asked if I would donate them to his enormous Stuckist painting collection. I told him to give Edgeworth some, and sure, he can have the rest. Before wrapping them up for posterity storage, Edgeworth had an exhibition and invited Charles over to critique it.
He is very articulate and his art history is learned. I’m only nice to him now because he didn’t tear me up in the video:)
I finally got to meet him face-to-face in March. A very nice man with a busy brain. Before we left his house he was preparing a bath for his roommate. I made the following painting a week later. Good times in London. I wish I was rich; I would live there:
