Henry Gets Ready for College 2019. Acrylic on canvas, 18 x 24"
Henry Throop (1880 - 1956) was born November 21, 1880 in Lebanon, N.Y. He was married to Ruby Ada Niles on September 4, 1907, and died in 1956. It is ironic that of the 10 generations passed, Henry is the only grandfather whom I have no exact death date, only the year is certain.
He was a graduate of Colgate Academy in 1901 and Cornell University in 1905. From 1906-1920 he was Assistant Engineer with Oneida Construction Company and its affiliates, and early on designed and supervised the electrification of the W.S.R.R. between Utica and Syracuse, N.Y. During this time he designed and built his lifelong house at 2117(15) South Geddes Street in Syracuse. His wrote an autobiography that delves deep into his public and private life.
My family owes a great deal to his research and archiving of the Throop record. Without Henry, I wouldn’t have deeper knowledge of my patronym than birth and death dates listed on the Internet.
