Shivjal, commonly known as Balloon Vine (scientific name: Cardiospermum halicacabum), is a tropical vine native to regions in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. It is part of the Sapindaceae family and is notable for its unique, balloon-like seed pods that give it its common name.
The Balloon Vine is characterized by its heart-shaped leaves and small, white flowers, which bloom in clusters. These flowers are not particularly showy but are essential for the plant's reproduction. The vine can grow rapidly, reaching heights of up to 10 feet or more, often climbing on nearby structures or plants for support.

Each pod contains several seeds, and when they dry, they burst open, dispersing the seeds and contributing to the plant’s propagation. This unique dispersal mechanism aids in the plant’s spread across various environments.
In traditional medicine, different parts of the Balloon Vine are utilized for their potential health benefits. It is believed to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, and some cultures
