I'm mind blown. This year continues to surprise us with how fast AI is developing. Just recently, an artwork created by AI sold for $1m at an auction . This is the first time that an art created by an AI was sold at an auction and at such insane amount!
The Art and The Artist
The art, titled A.I. God, is a portrait of Alan Turing , a mathematician and pioneering computer scientist who helped the Allies against Nazi Germany during World War II. Ironically, he also warned against the use of AIs. The piece was created by Ai-DA, a humanoid robot that can speak.
Ai-DA said that, “portrait of pioneer Alan Turing invites viewers to reflect on the God-like nature of AI and computing while considering the ethical and societal implications of these advancements.”
Conclusion
I'm no art connoisseur but just looking at the work created by Ai-DA, it seems to border on human creativity and imagination. I'm just impressed at how good it is. I can't help but ask myself: Is this a new era of art? Will we see more AI generated masterpieces in the near future? The answer in my mind is a big YES. This sale is a start where AI shows us its potential not just for computation but also to create something new and original. Not just to copy human intelligence but to produce on its own.
