The Hidden Paradise of Spain: The Town of Cambrils

Hello friends. We pondered over which coast to choose for a vacation in Catalonia. This is a very interesting question because each coast is unique: there's the Costa Brava near France, followed by Costa Maresme, Costa Barcelona, Costa del Garraf and finally Costa Dorada. Today we've arrived at a small town called Cambrils on the Costa Dorada coast. I’ll talk to you about the town's beaches, where you can stay and when you should book your reservation. I’ll also mention many places where you can eat and explore and I’ll try to convey the atmosphere of this town through the photos I’ve taken. So, let’s take a walk around the town of Cambrils.

Like many tourist towns there is a train you can ride to tour the city here. The route takes 40 minutes and it's free for small children. Alternatively for some additional fun, you can take a tour on one of the tourist boats. There are different options available: 42 Euros with meals and drinks, 39 Euros with drinks only and a five-hour Saturday tour for 61 Euros. You can also take a sailboat catamaran tour for 10 Euros. Here the price for a one-hour boat tour is also 10 Euros. This is a very reasonable option because for example, the round-trip boat tour from Lloret de Mar to Tossa de Mar costs 30 Euros. The prices of boat tours departing from Barcelona range from 9 to 12 Euros. However, the prices here are quite reasonable.

One of the most important symbols and tourist attractions in the town of Cambrils is its wide shoreline, which also features a bike path along the edge. This path extends to the neighboring town of Salou or in the other direction. Bike rentals are very common here and tourists often use this mode of transportation to explore along the sea. You can always find nearby restaurants and bars where you can taste local dishes because Cambrils is considered the gastronomic capital of this region.

Previously we stayed at the Sol Port hotel and overall we were satisfied. The price-performance ratio was excellent. The hotel is located about 200 meters from the sea. The breakfasts particularly impressed us. They serve champagne at breakfast. So you can enjoy a nice breakfast with tortilla, champagne, sweets or an omelet before heading out for a walk or going to PortAventura. I’ve detailed PortAventura in my previous posts. It’s located in Salou, about ten kilometers away. You can almost walk there or take a bus.

Everyone knows Booking.com, but there are also other platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo. Remember to book your hotel in Cambrils and other tourist spots in advance. Searching for a place in July for August is usually too late to find a good spot. These types of places are typically booked by late winter or early spring. If you’re searching in June it’s best to look for September or October because all the good places for the summer months will likely already be booked.

We sat down at a restaurant and ordered our meals. We had salad and mussels and took advantage of the day’s menu. It's nice to relax in Cambrils because there are fewer people here. Salou is more popular among tourists and you can visit there for PortAventura, but you can stay in Cambrils. One of the dessert options on the day’s menu was Santiago cake, decorated in the shape of a cross.

It was finally time for us to visit the beaches of Cambrils. The shoreline here is incredibly wide and in fact, there are several beaches with a total length stretching for several kilometers. One of the biggest advantages is that the entrance to the sea is quite shallow, making it an ideal spot for families with children. The sand is very fine, clean and the water deepens very gradually. This makes it a perfect place for those who want to vacation with kids. The seabed is sandy and you have to walk about 30 meters to get into swimming depth. The sand is very fine and there are very few people in the water. Some years, even at the beginning of June, the sea water can be quite cold. So it’s better to choose July, August and September for swimming. Compared to Costa Brava the water here is a few degrees warmer. Moreover the shallow and not-so-deep sea is ideal for family holidays. They’ve placed nice sunbeds along the beach. The prices are quite different from those in Lloret de Mar, where a sunbed costs 8 Euros and an umbrella also costs 8 Euros. Here however, prices vary from 9 to 25 Euros.

The sand on the beach here is very fine, very pleasant, with no stones or shells. I really liked the beach. I’ve swum here before at the end of September, so it’s suitable for swimming from July until the end of September. Depending on the weather the sea water here is around 22 degrees. There are plenty of activities available for children on the beach. For example, there are inflatable water parks in the sea. And there are goals set up for playing football and trampolines for children as well. The town also has a tourist information center. Here you can get information, learn about the town’s tourist spots and see points of interest with maps and photos. There’s plenty to see and do here.

That’s all for today. Thank you for reading my post. See you soon. 😊
