Codorníu Winery, Spain

Hello dear travel lovers, Today I want to share my experience visiting the vineyards and one of the wine production facilities in this area. The Codorníu winery is one of the oldest and most famous in the Catalonia region. We first took a bus to the town of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and then walked to one of the largest wine production facilities in the area.

The winery we needed to reach was two and a half kilometers from the train station, so we enjoyed a pleasant walk through the town. The walking route was quite nice. We quickly grabbed a snack and a drink at a small local café called "Blanco y Negro" which was the only open café we could find on a Saturday afternoon. We had a long way to go, so we ate quickly and continued on our way.

We were a bit late for our tour, but only by two minutes. The winery is situated in a beautiful location with views of Montserrat. It was truly enjoyable to walk around here. We joined a group tour with other tourists and our tour was in English. During the tour we saw a large collection of old tools that were used for harvesting and wine preparation.

Later we examined the wine bottles. The largest bottle in the collection is called Primato and they told us it can hold 25-27 liters of cava. Incredible.

The people here had some issues with electricity and the winery had to install a generator to support production. Eventually the facility became a small village and an electric train station was opened.

One of the most interesting and unusual moments was a ride on a small locomotive that took us through a tunnel. We took our seats and went for a ride in the tunnel. It was quite fun, like a kind of attraction. We completed our ride on the electric train and it was enjoyable.

We continued the tour. We were hoping we wouldn't have to walk to the tasting room since we were a bit tired. We arrived at a large warehouse where the electric trains were located. We were told to pass through a corridor where we could smell some aromas. We sniffed towards a vent and yes, it smelled a bit like fermentation. There were really various aromas and the space was quite large.

Finally we reached the tasting room. Three types of wine were offered for tasting and we proceeded in order, starting with the first type. There was also chocolate as a snack. We thought there might be some cheese, but this place either offers chocolate or cheese.

We finished the tasting and enjoyed all the different types of wine. This winery is massive and impressive in its scale. It even supplies wine to the Spanish royal palace. After the tour and tasting we moved on to the production shop. Here you can choose from all the products made by the facility. There are wines at different price points and they can deliver your purchase to your home for free. The shop was large and had various products. The scale and scope of the operation were quite impressive. It's wonderful to see how this has grown into such a large business. The tour was very professional, though the tasting section could be further improved. But overall it was a really nice experience.
