Music is something which has a place in pretty much every single moment of my life. It does not matter whether I am waking up and getting ready, prepping dinner, working, writing, drawing or even just lounging around… there is generally some kind of music playing somewhere in the house.
It does not need to be blasting from here to kingdom come, but I do like to have a little background noise most of the time and discovering what other people enjoy, so that I can broaden my own personal library is still one of my favourite things…
Music is something which influences me greatly and I have never really understood how some people don’t listen to music much at all. That is such a foreign concept to me! I could not think of anything worse than not having a backing track for all my activities, lol.
Though, it is not only that… it is the connection to the music and your mood. I know I am not the only person who has that level of “connection” and uses it to process or release on a regular basis. I guess in a manner of speaking, when you are in a particular emotional state… listening to music which resonates with you in that moment, is a little bit like having someone to talk to… to offload on.
I think one of the most remarkable things about music is its universality. It knows no boundaries of language or culture, transcending barriers and creating connections between people from all walks of life. Personally, I have lost count of the number of times I've bonded with strangers on the other side of the world over a shared love for a particular artist or song, exchanging stories and experiences as if we've known each other for years.
But perhaps the most profound impact music has had on me throughout my life is its ability to evoke raw, unfiltered emotions. Sometimes it is like certain songs are like a mirror, reflecting back little slices of my own life experiences, memories, and feelings.
You know the days… when you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed out or like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. We've all been there, right? For me, in those moments, music has often been my saving grace. There is always a song that helps me find my way back to some form of normality, lol.
I remember one particularly tough time in my life when I felt like I was drowning in a sea of uncertainty and I was struggling to keep my head above water. A friend of mine shared a song with me and I think I listened to that song every day on repeat for weeks on end haha - It felt like it was written just for me and it really did help me to find the inner strength I was lacking at the time. It was like the universe was sending me a message, reminding me that I was stronger than I thought and that I had the power to overcome whatever challenges came my way.
Music has such an incredible way of bringing people together, of creating connections that transcend words and helping us to re-focus on what's important by being able to release what is locked up within. Music is a language all its own - one that's filled with emotion, passion, and understanding.
Naturally as I have meandered my way down the road of life, I have gathered a handful of tracks which have marked particularly large milestones, so now they hold their own special place in my heart for I know how much they helped me at the time - whenever that time may have been. I thought I would share a couple of those with you - and it would be awesome if some of you shared some of yours with me - if you want to that is.
Time of My life
"Nobody puts baby in a corner"... hehehehe!!! The 80's movie "Dirty Dancing" was, is and will forever be my FAVOURITE movie of all time!!!! There really is NOT a track from this movie which I do not love, but THIS one gives me ALL the goosies!!!! And hey, with Patrick Swayze on board - what was to complain about hey? I have watched the movie more times than I care to admit, bought the VHS back in the day lol, the DVD when those became available and... ya!
Simply The Best
Much of my music passion stems from my mom. Music was a great passion of hers too and she introduced me to so MUCH, which is why I have the eclectic taste I do. This song speaks DEEPLY to me, not only because of the power the song itself holds, but because I know how much it meant to my mom. To me, it is one of those tunes that will never get old and whenever it IS played, it is ALWAYS on FULL VOLUME!!!!!
Sit Down
I was introduced to this band in my teens, by my best friends boyfriend. It was a difficult time in my life. A time when I behaved carelessly and threw complete caution to the wind. I did many things I should not have. I was sixteen and already in a massively abusive relationship compliments of drugs. All I really wanted was to feel loved and to feel happy. I sought it in all the wrong places. This song penetrates my core. It has since the time I heard it for the very first time, and it still does.
Silence
This one takes me back to my LSD and Ecstasy induced years. A period of my life which will never leave me, because I learned a lot during that time. Those who have never done drugs will not know the levels of consciousness which you are thrown into. Those who have - will! This part of my life is probably the most poignant. It was a mind expanding but VERY dark time, because I was trying to escape my actual reality. The things I exposed myself to I can never take back but through it all, it is a PIVOTAL part of who I am today, why I feel energy to the degree I do and why I am open and receptive to most things.
This is the New Shit
I am a HUUUUGE Manson fan - always have been - always will be. This is not a particularly old track of his - I have enjoyed many of those on plenty a dance floor... but I love the honesty of this one. It speaks to my Gemini twin lol and definitely connects with her :)
As someone who listens to and LOVES a LOT of music... I have to say - it was not an easy list to downscale. lol There are SOOOOOOO many songs and artists I love and tracks which have made a huge impact or impression on me at one point or another but yeah.... These ones are "right up there" for me.
❤❤❤
Until next time...
