Acide (2023) Review

As the blue sky gives way to gray rain clouds, the acceptable apocalyptic scenario of the 2023 film Acide takes shape. Apocalyptic movies about the end of the world often deal with exaggerated and near-impossible themes, but sometimes there are some highly acceptable productions, like the one above.

After a heat wave, the rain clouds suddenly begin to drop deadly acid rain droplets on the earth. This means the death of all living things, including plants, and radical changes in the living conditions of those who manage to stay behind.

So far, I have to admit that I really liked the script and I was excited to watch people's efforts to survive in the renewed living conditions. Don't you think it is a successful scenario? I have to say that although global warming is affecting everywhere, I find it strange that the acid rain is limited to certain cities and regions. I think they wasted what could have been a great story because of the limitation of the actors and the narrowing of the space.

It was quite strange that they focused on a single family throughout the movie, and that the family in focus was a family that was problematic and magnified small issues; that those who were bickering within themselves continued to bicker even when the world was at the stage of extinction. Whereas we expect people on the eve of death to get along better. It's not that they're bickering with each other, but you don't want to watch people worrying about petty things in an event that threatens all life.

I liked the opening story of the movie Acide, but I didn't like the way the story was handled and how it revolved around a single family. The lack of any new developments in the story made it boring after a while and the characters constantly fighting with each other became unbearable. I couldn't decide whether to continue watching the movie or turn it off during the fights.

The only character I liked in the movie was Michal. Guilaume Canet, who gave life to him, at least seemed solution-oriented instead of creating chaos like the others. Even though his solutions didn't work very well, he successfully played the responsible father figure of a troubled family.

In fact, he has the only positive scenes in the movie. He managed to reflect the impression of a father who would do anything for his daughter regardless of the consequences with his sacrifice. These were the only moments I enjoyed watching the movie. However, my expectations were much higher at the beginning of the movie. I thought I would enjoy watching how people can survive in the worst changing life conditions.

Instead of describing the movie Acide as a world apocalypse, I would like to point out that it is based on the theme of a temporary apocalypse for a few cities for a few days. At least don't fall into the trap I fell into. In fact, I don't think you should watch the movie. There is no difference between watching and not watching. You know how there are some people who are either for it or against it, I can make this analogy for the movie. Thank you for being here and reading.
