Hey everyone, guess what? I just whisked my wife and the kids away for a little family reunion in her hometown, Bukian Village! It's been ages since she's had a proper sleepover with her folks, and let me tell you, the excitement was crackling in the air. We even managed to squeeze in a quick school pick-up for our little one, Ina, before hitting the road.
By 11 am, we were pulling into the familiar sights and sounds of Bukian. The smiles on everyone's faces, especially my wife's, were like sunshine breaking through the clouds. It's amazing how a trip back to your roots can instantly recharge your soul. The kids, well, they were bouncing off the walls with joy. Can you blame them? Seeing their grandparents and cousins after what felt like forever was pure magic for them.
After a delicious lunch and some much-needed rest, the little ones were off like rockets, chasing their cousins around the house.
Meanwhile, my wife, ever the helpful soul, joined her parents in a delightful mangosteen harvest. Picture this: lush green trees heavy with these plump, purple jewels, just begging to be picked. My father-in-law, a seasoned pro, expertly gathers the bounty, which will soon be making its way to the market with the help of a friendly neighbor.
Now, the afternoon brought a real treat for me and the kids – a trip to the fields to visit the family cow! Let's just say, the wide-eyed wonder on their faces as they approached this gentle giant was priceless. The walk to the cowshed itself was an adventure – a green sea of rice fields stretching as far as the eye could see. It's a world away from the hustle and bustle of city life, a place where fresh air washes over you and peace settles into your bones.
The kids, naturally, had a blast. They splashed in the irrigation channels, hopping from one rice bundle to another like little explorers.
They even got to help their grandpa feed the cow some pre-cut grass, their faces beaming with pride. It was a scene straight out of a storybook – pure, unadulterated joy.
Speaking of stories, a walk back to the house brought a nostalgic memory flooding back for me. As we passed a rice field, I spotted a young boy engrossed in catching eels. Just like me, back in the day! I couldn't resist saying hello.
Turns out, he already had one wriggling friend tucked away in a plastic bottle, and wouldn't you know it, he managed to snag another one right before my eyes.
There you have it, folks! A glimpse into our little family escape. It was a beautiful reminder of the simple pleasures in life – family, fresh air, and the magic of connecting with your roots.
