James has always believed that his carefulness and smartness have been the major reason why he has not been met with misfortune. He tells his friends each time they complain about one misfortune or the other, that they are the architect of their misfortune.
Most of James' friends became tired of his view of other people's predicaments and so they stopped sharing their problems with him.
One day, James was driving home and as usual, he was driving at an average speed while paying attention to no other things than the road. After driving for about 20 minutes, he wanted to stop and ease himself as he was feeling his bladder fill up. He matched the break several times but the car didn't stop, it was as if the brake had broken. At this point, fear grips him. He remembered servicing the car two days ago and had always checked every component of the car before driving.
It was at this that it dawned on him that misfortune can happen to anyone and that it was God's mercy that has save
d him all these time and not his carefulness or smartness. He ended up crashing his car and breaking his left leg.
When his friends visited him at the hospital, he apologized to them for all the time he had accused them of being the reason behind their misfortunes. He ended by saying “ Truly, misfortune can happen to anyone.
