Hello again Blurt! Happy Thursday! Before I even move on to anything else, I just wanted to say a very big thanks for the love filled welcome I got to Blurt yesterday - especially from @leifasaur, @khrom and @beblurt! You know how to make a girl feel welcome!
So kicking off my boho journey with you guys, I thought I would start off with a fun and unique DIY project! I love doing stuff around my own place and adding to the character of my home with my own hands. If you like beaded stuff, then you are going to love this hand made beaded mirror project!
What you are going to need:
- A Round Mirror
- Circular Cardboard which is larger than your mirror
- Assorted decorative beads - make sure you have plenty
- Acrylic paints in coordinating colors
- Hot Glue
- Craft Knife
- Hooks for hanging
First, take a large bowl to outline a perfect circle on a piece of cardboard. With precision, cut out the circular shape using a craft knife. To secure the mirror back onto the cardboard, opt for the trusty hot glue method, ensuring a sturdy bond. Additionally, apply an extra line of hot glue around the perimeter of the mirror for added stability. (Note: If dealing with a larger mirror, experts suggest opting for a robust adhesive for a more secure attachment.)
To enhance the aesthetics and maintain a polished look, you can add a painting hack. Before gluing each row of beads, carefully paint a thin strip of acrylic paint underneath. This strategic approach serves a dual purpose – not only does it provide a seamless backdrop for the beads, but it also ensures that any exposed cardboard blends harmoniously with the overall design. After the paint dries, the exciting phase of attaching the beads begins. Taking it step by step, glue down each section, opting to keep the beads on their original strand for easier management and a more organized process.
