Stanley Kubrick's 1968 Science Fiction epic, 2001: A Space Odyssey, has captured the imaginations of millions since it debuted over half a century ago.
The film opens at the beginning of mankind and explores the notion that an alien force helped hsape our evolution and destiny. The film explores the threat of sentient AI technology, human exploration and the alien guidance that produced our race. Strange obelisks guide the evolution of man and the film ends with a mysterious transformation of man into another more evolved form.
The music in this film makes it. In the beginning of the movie, the audience is captured as prehistoric man learns to use weapons and tools and can defeat a rival gang of apes. The soundtrack dominates, as much of the film has no dialogue.
I love this film, and hold it as the greatest of Kubrick's craft. I am fond of his other works including Eyes Wide Shut and Barry Lindon. The cinematography and story in this film are epic and the contrast between the past and future of our species is pronounced.
Please see this classic if you habebt already. I saw it again recently and enjoyed it.
