At Third City Cafe

Early Friday morning, I was in the bathroom showering when my phone rang. I was reluctant to pick up the phone because I assumed it was my boss, but I was surprised when I got there after three 'missed calls' to see that it was Lawson, my coworker.

I picked up the phone and called him back.

"Hello, big man," he said as he picked up the call, and I responded with, "Good morning, I hope the reason you called me this morning isn't bad news?"

"Hehehehe, must you always think like that? Meet me at Third City Cafe, on your way to work. I'm there already waiting for you, let's feel the goodies of the newly opened coffee shop before we go to work."

He hung up the call immediately after saying that, without minding to get my reply and also not considering that I was the one who called him with my airtime.

It was already 7:04 a.m., so I hurried up with my dressing. I wore a plain black trouser with a white Polo top and covered it up with a jacket with the same colour as the trouser.
I picked up my briefcase, my bunch of keys and zoomed off in my car.

Within a few minutes of driving, I arrived at the Third City Cafe. I wasn't surprised at the outward appearance because I had seen it few times on my route to work, but I had not been inside.

I came out of my car, locked the car door with my briefcase inside, and walked to the entrance. It's a transparent door and I could see the inside from the door.

The view was so nice, but I noticed people were walking out with a sad face.

I opened the door and entered, and I moved directly to the corner where Lawson was seated. I met him looking disappointed, with a cup of coffee (I assumed) on his table.

"Bro, why are you dull? What's happening?" I asked him with eagerness to hear his response.

"Could you believe what I was told by the waiter that served me this cup? He offered me tea instead of coffee with the reason that they've been restricted from selling coffee by the food regulating body" He lamented with anger.

"Tell me it's not true, because this is unbelievable. This place just got newly opened," I surprisingly added.

"Okay, have a taste of this cup and see it yourself," he said, shifting the cup to my direction. I raised the cup, took a sip, and got surprised. "Jeeez, this is tea!"

I waved at the waiters and one of them walked to us. I asked him, "Why no coffee?"

"Our system no longer supports coffee for now, and this is due to the recent deaths of four families who had the latest breed of coffee. For more information, please meet my manager in his office, or you could Google check," the waiter said in a very polite tone and walked back to his position.

"Mtchwwwwwww!" We both hissed.

"So, if there were deaths by people who consumed the new breed of coffee, does it mean that we can't have the old ones again?" I said as I got up from the seat with readiness to leave.

"Lawson, you're still here? Let's go, man!" I stretched my hand to him, and he held my hand as he pulled up.

We left and went on our way, feeling disappointed. Also, a lot of people left the shop as we were leaving; they were angry too.
