The Longest Yard is a 2005 comedy starring Adam Sandler as an imprisoned football star who finds himself assembling a prison football team to fight the guards. Sandler goes from star to inmate facing years in prison for a crime he didn't commit inside the walls. The film features a number of commedians popular at the time, and it's alot of fun to watch.
I saw this film in theaters in downtown Portland when it came out. It was well-promoted and came after the tech crash of 2001 that impacted the metro area and Hillsboro. I saw it in the Fox Tower theater downtown after a meal, and am amazed it was 20 years ago.
This film is well done, and it explores prison exploitation. Sandler had an amazing run of films in the late 1990s and early 2000s that were produced under his production company. Happy Gilmore and SNL funded alot of these ventures, and the quality is high. Many of his films have been described as cliche or produced by committee, but I enjoy them for what they are.
Love Sandler, esp that era.
Have yet to see this one, it's on the to do list.
