Child's Play is the classic horror/slasher film from 1988 that continues to scare viewers after almost 4-decades.

Child's Play and A Nightmare on Elm Street explore our childhood fears. Both films set the standard for slashers in the 1980s, and Child's Play explores the dark world of a voodoo magic that allows a dying serial killer to inhabit the body of a doll. The doll must then choose a human to swap souls with, and an unassuming family is chosen as the target of Chucky, the doll golem.

The film itself is entertaining and bloody. The voice of Chucky sounds absolutely unhinged, and the voice acting for the doll golem is on point. This movie has a solid body count and decent effects for the late 1980s. Part of the horror of this film is that the main character is a child who no one believes and whose warnings about the doll golem are written off as imagination.

This film stands the test of time because it plays on our primal fears of the unknown. Could a toy kill us? Is it possible dark forces could make a serial killer inhabit a hunk of plastic?
