Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique used to restore blood circulation and breathing in a person who has stopped breathing or whose heart has stopped beating. CPR should be performed on anyone who is unresponsive, not breathing, or not showing signs of circulation.
To perform CPR:
- Call 911 or your local emergency number
- Check the person's airway, breathing, and circulation (ABCs)
- Start compressions (100-120 per minute)
- Give rescue breaths (two breaths after every 30 compressions)
- Continue CPR until emergency medical personnel arrive or the person regains consciousness.
CPR should only be performed by someone trained in the proper technique.
