Which is located in Rooppur of Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna District, Bangladesh.
It is Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant with the first unit scheduled to start operations in 2024. [1][2] The plant is being built in collaboration with Russia's Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation.
On October 10, 2021 and October 18, 2022, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina virtually inaugurated the reactor pressure vessels of the first and second units of the center from Gana Bhavan respectively.
On both occasions, the Prime Minister joined Ishwardi in Pabna through video conference from Gana Bhavan. Russian Atomic Energy Organization-Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev was present at the event presided over by Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman in Rooppur.[5][6]
On 5 October 2023, Bangladesh officially received its first shipment of nuclear fuel from Russia. A virtual event was organized on the occasion in which Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Russian President Vladimir Putin were present.[7]
The first unit was scheduled to be handed over on 13 October 2024 and the second unit on 17 October 2025, but in February 2024 the project was extended by two years to 2027.[8]

Rooppur nuclear power plant is built in Rooppur village of Pakshi union under Ishwardi upazila of Pabna, 200 km northwest of Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. [3] The project is located on the river bank next to the Hardinge Bridge and Lalon Shah Bridge built over the Padma River.
