The Funny Side of Crochet

Hi Blurtians! From 4 years of posting all my projects on Hive, I came to Blurt and realized there aren't too many crochet posts yet! Today I'd like to show you some nice things I like to crochet for myself & the funny things I do when I don't have the right things for the job!

Whoa, look! A wild psychedelic mushroom!

I made this a couple days ago. I saw others make theirs on the internet and I thought they are so cute! So I just had to make one. I just love the aesthetic of magic mushrooms' in itself. Now I just need to make an army... This mushroom is such a fun-gi, it takes up so mush-room in my heart! Ok, sorry for the bad play-on-words... I just had to! 🤣

My favorite details about him are the little hearts for the white dots on his cap. What do you think?

Ever since I was an infant, my mama always used to tell me: "Du musst wissen wie man aus Scheiße Bonbons macht!"; in English: "You need to know how to make out of shit, candy!"; in other words.... take what you have and make something great out of it!

Here I'll show you how I did so with my crochet flower bouquet!

To make these, I used yarn, wooden skewers, paint to paint the skewers and hot glue. These were really fun to make and they seem like a great gift for loved ones with a note that says something like "I love you until the last flower dies", or something cute like that.

When I said I improvised with these, it was because I wanted to make the Lavender flower, but I don't have purple yarn. So I crocheted it with white yarn!

Ladies and gentlemen, this might seem weird, but it saved me money! Also it's not that easy to get yarn where I live right now. So I grabbed some of my intensely pigmented chalk, mixed it with water and yes, dunked my white lavender in it!

image

Even with this alternative to dye, the lavender is holding its color for longer than you might think. I also realized, that the chalk/water mix actually also makes some pretty cool watercolor! The only thing is that it dyed my hands to look like Barney the purple dinosaur for a little while... but that's okay! 🤪

With the super hot sun in Acapulcos' mid-day, it dried up in no time! So if you don't have a yarn color that you desire, but do have a white or cream color yarn and chalk, you could try this at home!

My moral of this story is, no matter how silly it might be, you can do whatever is on the table to get there! Because I feel like, some people care to much about how "unusual" they're being. Do you think Nikola Tesla cared about how silly he looked when he tried to invent a machine that sucked electricity out of the air? No!
That's how people can create nice things, small scale or large scale.
My case is closed.

Finally, I glued while wrapping the crochet around the wooden skewer and sprayed it with hair spray just a bit for good mesures. Then, VOILA!

Thank you for stopping by at my blog and hanging out with me! I wish you a very nice day and I'll see you next time! :)
