I am Mnkong Emmanuel Saah, a resident in a neighborhood of Ngomgham - Mankon, Bamenda of north west region Cameroon. And would like to introduce my Orchard to dear blurtians, and to share an experience of theft by the unknown persons. I own an orchard where I grow fruits trees for both commercial and domestic use. My orchard is not so big but has all it takes to be called an orchard. In my orchard you can find shrubs and fruits like, pears, guavas, mangoes, sugar cane, Chinese apples, pawpaw etc. Historically an orchard is a habitat where many fruit trees were brought over by the Roman. So cultivating fruit trees might date back to the Neolithic period. Orchards are not only beautiful and useful but they can also be important for wildlife. However own orchard is directly opposite my house, and it adds to the beauty of the front yard of the compound. Passers-by usually stop by just to admire the beauty and content of the orchard. Unfortunately the beauty and the content of the orchard has attracted the visit of thieves who come time an again to steal sugar canes and Other fruits from the orchard.
Unlike other orchardists I do it mainly for commercial and personal use, I do it also for charity purpose. I share the produce to friends, neighbours, love ones and even people who just come by to say "hi" or come visiting.
Unfortunately they still come to steal sugar cane and other fruits at night from the orchard. I don't know if it is hunger, jealousy or just wickedness. I realized that incidents like these are only to discourage initiatives. Stealing has become very rampant in my neighborhood that people are becoming helpless. What the thieves fail to know is that taking another person's thing or property without his/her knowledge or permission or legal right or without intending to return it, is an offence. Even in the bible the Lord Jesus Christ said, as quoted by paul in Acts 20:35 "It is more blessed to give than to receive". And according to the bible, stealing is basically taking anything that isn't yours. And is an act against the commandments of God.
Nowadays people try other means to keep the thieves away. When I looked at how challenging the situation is, I decided to scare the thieves by placing a fake juju ( not my nature ) in my Orchard because it is what they fear, not even God. The truth is that people are not afraid of anything. Everyday they take laws into their hands! I wish they could even fear my "fake juju ", and leave my fruits in peace.
