The magical beauty of ruins

Every time I visit a new city, I like to photograph some buildings. However, I am fascinated by the old buildings. Many of these buildings are part of the history of the place and others are abandoned structures.

My fascination with old buildings is that many of them have the architectural style of their time and the original materials of their construction. I love to see the nakedness of their walls because you can appreciate the bricks, metal or wood that make up their structure.

This is the front of an 18th century house in the historic part of a Caribbean city.

As a curious traveler, I could not miss the opportunity to visit the outside and inside of this wonderful structure. Some of the original parts have been restored. For example, the metal bars of this original window were rusted by the passage of time. However, they have been replaced to give this house a new look.

However, this small window still has its original iron bars. They are rusty, but still strong.

The interior of this house is another example of the materials used in its construction. The use of columns for construction is not observed. It can only be observed that the walls were built by stacking several stones and making a very rustic frieze.

You can see the remains of tiles with geometric figures in black and white colors. Maybe a mosaic in blue tones? I do not know exactly.

On one of the sides you can see one of the original windows that has not been restored. This is fortunate because the wood and the bars are three hundred years old. In the case of the pavement tiles, it is a recent work.

This is one of my favorite photos, although a bit dissonant, as it is a restored doorway painted with a more vibrant color that breaks the monochrome of the main facade of the house. Nevertheless, this doorway is beautiful with its old wooden planks, nails, and rusty hinges.

If you like old buildings as much as I do, you can see the art implicit in each structure. I love capturing this kind of urban landscape with my camera.

Thanks for reading. See you soon!
