Yesterday evening, I had a plan to catch up with an old friend over a Thai BBQ in Patong, a place that holds many fond memories for both of us. We used to frequent a particular restaurant there, known not just for its delicious food but also for its serene atmosphere by the canal. The sounds of water flowing added a calming backdrop to our many conversations over the years.

At 5:00 p.m., I picked up my friend from her restaurant, where she manages a beauty salon and massage shop. The traffic in Patong was as dense as ever, testing our patience as we made our way through the bustling streets. But finally, after what felt like an eternity, we arrived at the familiar Thai BBQ spot.

We had hoped to enjoy our meal outside, right by the canal, where the gentle murmur of the water always made dining a more delightful experience. Unfortunately, a light drizzle had started, making it impossible to sit outdoors. Reluctantly, we chose a table inside, where we could still hear the distant sound of the canal, a comforting reminder of why we loved this place so much.

Once we had settled into our seats, we eagerly headed to the food selection area. The Thai BBQ restaurant offered an all-you-can-eat buffet, a paradise for food lovers like us. The spread was impressive, featuring a wide variety of blue crabs and various types of shellfish meats including beef, pork, chicken, fish, and squid. There was also an abundant selection of fresh vegetables, perfect for complementing the grilled flavors.

We carefully picked out a few pieces of our favorite items, not wanting to overload our plates at once. The beauty of this buffet was that we could return as many times as we wanted. This allowed us to savor each bite without feeling rushed or stuffed.

The sounds of the canal mingled with the cheerful chatter of other diners, creating a lively yet relaxing atmosphere. As the evening progressed, we found ourselves making several trips back to the buffet, each time discovering new flavors and combinations to try.

One indispensable dish for us at any Thai BBQ is the papaya salad with blue crabs. It's a must-have every time we come here. The combination of the spicy, tangy papaya salad with the fresh, succulent blue swimming crabs is simply irresistible. As always, my friend took charge of making the papaya salad. She has a special touch when it comes to this dish, and her version is always incredibly flavorful. The mix of shredded green papaya, chili, lime, fish sauce, and a hint of sweetness, paired with the tender blue crab, created a burst of flavors that danced on our taste buds.

We savored each bite, feeling the heat of the spices balanced perfectly with the refreshing crunch of the papaya and the rich taste of the crab. It was one of those dishes that perfectly complemented the grilled meats and vegetables from the BBQ, adding an extra layer of excitement to our meal.

After about an hour of indulging in the delicious BBQ and papaya salad, we both felt very full. However, there were still fruits and desserts waiting to be tasted. Not wanting to miss out, my friend and I decided to walk around and sample some of the offerings.

After paying for our meal, I dropped my friend off at her restaurant and then drove home. The night had been a perfect blend of delicious food, great conversation, and cherished memories, leaving me with a warm, satisfied feeling as I headed back.
