Hello everyone!

There's a certain part in our neighborhood where Fiddlehead ferns (it's called Pako in our place) grow. If you will look at from a distance it can't be seen and no one would thought that there's vegetables that can be pick in this area because of the vines and other grasses that grow rapidly. My husband was the one who used to pick this vegetable ferns so I can cook it but today I am the one who did it because he wasn't around yet. He will be home late so I needed to prepare our food so that when he comes home he would just eat and relax. I know how tiring his work is so a healthy and nutritious meal is what he need.

This is the place I'm talking to. As you can see there are many vines crawling in this part. Have you spotted some fiddlehead ferns? I guess you saw a few of those but the others aren't seen because some are hidden with the vines. Before I went in this area I wear rain boots because I might step on snakes or centipedes. Just thinking about it made me shiver. I am really afraid of those. Who wouldn't be?

By the way, are you familiar with this kind of fern? Before when I was living with my grandma I never saw this kind of fern but here in my husband's place there are lots of those. And I discovered that this can be eaten. There are many dishes that can be made with this and I tell you this vegetable is very delicious.

These are all the ferns that we've got. It's already enough for the four of us. This will be cook with the banana blossom that we got yesterday.

1000001325.jpg I already cut and prepare the picked ferns then I wash it. It's now ready to be cooked.

1000001330.jpg This is the banana blossom that I cut into small. After this cutting it, I put salt. Then I mix and squeeze it to remove the juices of this banana blossom. If it wouldn't be remove, the taste of it is somewhat bitter. After squeezing it with salt, I wash it thoroughly to remove the saltiness and the excess juices. Then I drain it and it's also now ready to cook.

In cooking this dish, the first that I did was heat the wok and when it's already hot I put enough oil to sautee the garlic. When the garlic turn brown, I put the banana blossom.

I first added the banana blossom then season this with soy sauce (just a little amount), seasoning granules and water. After putting water I cover the wok and simmer it for three minutes. When the time is up I open and taste the soup. It's a little bland so I added salt and seasoning granules to balance the taste. When I'm contented with the taste, I put the vegetable fern.

After putting all the fern, I mix it altogether and cover the wok. I simmer it for four minutes just enough to cook the fern. After four minutes, it's now ready to serve.

Here's the cooked fiddlehead Fern with banana blossom. What do you think of this dish?

Since the vegetable is already cooked I also cook the dried lupoy. For us, this is a perfect pair with that vegetable. If your curious about what that dried lupoy is just look at the pictures shown below.

Dried Lupoy, vegetable and yellow rice for today's dinner. I cook the rice with turmeric powder that's why its color is yellow. I really love this yellow rice especially when it is still hot. The aroma of the turmeric made the rice more savory. The combination of these three foods is so delicious. It may look simple but it can make us full.
