Hello dear Blurt Blog friend!

I usually buy them every time I go with mom for fruits, vegetables and vegetables. But, it is just a small package with a small quantity. In addition to being expensive, because here in my country due to inflation prices rise.

In December while browsing Instagram I saw the recipe for my favorite snack: plantain tostones.

So I made them over and over again, I turned my family into tostones addicts, so now I have to make them every once in a while. I'm not complaining, because I love them too.

Now, let's get to the recipe!

Utensils
You can make your tostones just using a knife, a place to rest the banana to chop it, and a paddle to remove them from the oil, as well as handle them when they are hot. However, since I am a 26-year-old girl with the soul of a lady, I have fallen in love with this utensil: A potato peeler.

I didn't have one at home, it was something "unnecessary", until I saw the recipe. I went to a place that sells food as well as utensils in general, I found it for 12 Bs, which is approximately $0.30. Very economical, it is quite simple, but very practical for our recipe.

But, Zul, what will we do with him?

This device will make us obtain thin strips of banana. We can do it with the knife, of course, but it is a little complicated because they must be very thin.

This utensil has the appropriate thickness to be able to generate tostones, as well as French fries, identical to the commercial ones.

Ingredients
1/2 liter of oil
5 green bananas
Salt to taste

Preparation

  • Prepare the bananas:
First peel the bananas, peel the entire green shell. By making a linear opening along the banana you will be able to remove it like a peel with your hands.

Then chop them in half. This will help you manipulate them better.

Now comes the turn of our magic tool "the potato peeler". Let's prepare them one by one. Take half of one, and run the potato peeler twice over the banana, this will give you a flat surface on the banana, which will allow you to support it better so it doesn't move.

Then continue passing the tool several times until you are done with the banana.

Don't you know how to do it?
Don't worry. Here I leave you a GIF of how I did it.

Be careful: An important fact is that there will come a point where there will be little banana left, so it will break with the friction and pulling of the banana. To do this we will use a knife, with this we can make those last little pieces into strips to fry. The ones I made with a knife were a little thick for me, but they are still divine.

  • It's time to fry:
We are going to fry little by little, those that fit in the pan. How much oil to add? The amount of cover the bananas a little, so they can be sewn evenly.

First, fry one side of the banana, then flip them with the help of a fork and a paddle. After a while you will notice how little by little they turn into the crispy tostones that we know. Right at that moment, start sautéing them with the paddle. Always be very careful not to splash the oil.

Take them out and place them on absorbent paper. Or, if you don't have one, you can place a cup and a strainer. This will help strain the oil a little.

  • Serve and enjoy:
5 plantains gives 4 large cups of tostones servings. You can also serve it as a delicious snack for guests, accompanied by the sauce you want. My favorite is the tomato sauce, it combines perfectly.
