Hello! Today's post will be for anyone who is interested in trying Splinterlands. I will walk you through on how to start a free to play account.

First head to the Splinterlands main page and register for a new account.

You can sign up using your email and then pick a password. The game will send you an email which you will need to verify.

Once done, you can now start navigating the game's start page.

Since you haven't bought a spellbook yet then your name will be assigned by the game as Initiate_XXXXXX. There are a lot of items you will have to familiarize with in this page but don't be overwhelmed. Let's go over them one by one.

Play

This is the place where you will be most interested in as newbie to the game. Here you'll just be using the "Ranked Battle" for now. Ranked battle is where you play against other players. To familiarize yourself in this mode, it's better to start with the in-game tutorial.

The tutorial is a good starting point to teach you the basic intricacies of the game. To familiarize yourself with the cards and rulesets, you start playing matches. You can play with Starter Cards which will allow you to earn Glint tokens. Glint tokens can be used in the in-game shop to buy reward chests. These reward chests contain powerful cards that can be your start to building a deck. This brings us to the next menu, the Shop.

Shop

In this place, you as an initiate will be interested in the Rewards shop.

You can spend the Glints you earned here to buy various reward chests. I previously wrote a guide on spending in the Glint Shop in this link. You can visit it for a comprehensive guide on spending and which to prioritise.

The next button is the Market.

Market

In this place, you can buy and rent NFT cards using DEC, the game's currency. But if you have no spellbook yet then you cannot use it at the moment. We now move to the next menu, "Open".

Open

Here you can open packs that you have bought. If you have joined a guild, then you can buy and open Gladius cases in here. For joining a guild, let's discuss it in the next section.

Guild

Joining a guild has many advantages, you can join battles that is called Brawls. You can earn SPS, the game's governance token if you already own a spellbook. If not, you can only earn Merits. Merits are tokens to buy Gladius cases. Each Gladius case contain 5 cards with one guaranteed rare or higher. If you want to familiarize yourself with guilds, I wrote a post about the benefits of joining a guild, fighting in Brawls and buying and opening Gladius cases in this link.

After you buying some cards, you can view your card inventory in the "Items" menu.

Items

Here you can check your card inventory. You can go to Items>Cards>Owned

This will show you the cards you have accumulated.

Discord

If you have further questions on the game, head over to the Splinterlands discord and ask the community. The Splinterlands community is very helpful and may even delegate you some cards to help you start the game. You may also find a guild in discord.

Spellbook

If you find the game fun and enjoyable then you may want to buy a Spellbook. A Spellbook will allow you to earn SPS, own NFT cards and do other actions such as renting or selling the NFTs you own. You can also now pick a name in lieu of the one given by the game.

Thank you for reading and have fun playing Splinterlands!
